SXSW, Mobile Reporting, GPS Mileage

Hey, are you going to SXSW? If so, can you do me a favor and drop by my panel “How the Wallet Was Won: The End of Paper Receipts” on Tuesday at 11am?

I’d love to see some friendly faces in the audience! Also, because everyone tries to outdo everyone else with crazy SXSW promotions, we figure we’ll go with a classic: free beer (or the beverage of your choice), on us. Just send me an expense report at sxsw@expensify.com with a receipt photo showing you drinking heartily (with an Austin or SXSW landmark in the background as evidence), and I’ll reimburse you $5 via PayPal. Extra points for creativity, because what happens in Austin stays in Austin… except for what you send to me and I put on our blog.

But really, that’s not the exciting news. More interesting is that we’ve just released a *major* update to iPhone*, Android, and Windows Phone*. Now you can see all your past receipts and expenses, add expenses to reports, and even submit full expense reports from the app itself. It’s been a long time coming (and there are still a million improvements to be made), but it’s finally here!

On that note, after a million requests we’ve added *GPS mileage tracking*! That’s right: just click “Start” and “Stop”, and we’ll measure the distance traveled (using background GPS — ooh fancy) and log a mileage expense. Available on iPhone and Android.

Anyway, we’re working hard to make everything a little better every day. I still have a huge number of responses to the last newsletter that I haven’t yet replied to, but I will. Please hit Reply on this and I’ll get to you as soon as I can, thanks!

* It’s still called “Expensify Lite” on iPhone, as “Expensify” is still slightly more feature rich — we’ll switch out the old with the new once it has it all. Also, we’re awaiting approval from Apple and Microsoft, so any day now… Thanks for your patience!
