Archives For November 30, 2013

It’s no secret that since we opened our doors in 2008, we have relied on our users and early adopters for feedback, which has heavily influenced the way we’ve grown. In the early days, David would email anyone who signed up with Expensify asking for comments, suggestions, and feedback — both positive and negative — and that has allowed us to develop a very loyal base early on. Thanks to the early feedback, we were able to create an employee-driven, bottom-up business model that provides easy-to-use software for the employee while still providing all the features needed by the CTO.  Continue Reading…

You Autocomplete Me

helpatexpensify —  December 29, 2014 — Leave a comment

While most expenses come into Expensify using our magic SmartScan feature, or via a credit card import, there are still some occasions where you might need to manually enter expenses. In case you ever have to do this, we’ve just made it a little bit easier, using merchant auto-complete.

“How do I use this amazing feature?”
Well, dear reader, just start typing the merchant name into our web app, and we’ll automatically fill in the most common matches. Pro-Tip: We’ll also do ‘fuzzy’ matching, so if you make a typo in the merchant name we’ll pick that up too.

Magic.

Hey there! It’s Conor again, one of the Success Coaches at Expensify. Ours is a new team, dedicated to ensuring expense reporting happiness for our customers. This week, we’re following-up a previous announcement by expanding our corporate card export support to NetSuite customers too. This great feature allows you to export transactions to specific company card sub accounts in NetSuite.

Our great two-way integration with NetSuite already supports exporting to journal entries and expense reports, and with this update we’re supporting greater flexibility and enabling our customers to work even more effectively.

You can troll all day on the internet for tips and tricks on what you should and shouldn’t do as a first time entrepreneur.  Maybe it’s not your first time, but you’re still figuring things out.  Either way, here’s one more that you probably already know (deep within your heart, maybe?).

For us, we had a vision to rid the world of expense reports that suck. For the guys at Chubbies Shorts, they envisioned an alternative, retro glam lifestyle from decades past. Two completely different businesses in every single way, but both ideas were born from a desire to change the status quo. Coming up with a company tagline isn't always easy

Coming up with a tagline isn’t always easy…

“Expense reports that don’t suck!”

People often chuckle when they hear our tagline – it’s memorable, it’s catchy, and it captures a feeling that they’ve probably experienced before. As an occasional advisor to growing startups, I often get questions about product branding during our early days. Where did our tagline come from? How did we decide on this one? Here are three quick points to consider: Continue Reading…

“Best offshore I’ve been on since the last offshore,” — a software engineer or sales team veteran.

Regardless of who actually said that, they’re not far from the truth: Offshore 2014 was packed with long 12-hour working days mixed with weekends filled with sightseeing and sunbathing. We got elbows deep in Portugal’s cod and port wine culture, participated in a Portuguese version of the running of the bulls, bunkered up at a restored monastery for a week, enjoyed a live fado performance, and much, much more.  Continue Reading…
