Expensify Lite for the iPhone

Tom Jacobs —  November 17, 2011 — 10 Comments

Many of you have been asking for mileage support in our iPhone app –
so here it is, in the form of Expensify Lite!

This rounds out our offering of mobile apps by having the same app available on the four major smartphone platforms: iOS, Android, BlackBerry, and Windows Phone. Let’s see how it looks on the iPhone:

To install it, just click here, or search for “Expensify Lite” on your iPhone.

As with our other mobile apps, this app includes mileage & odometer entry, business card scanning, comments on receipts, and offline support!

But if you’re looking for more expense report management features in your iPhone app, our “Expensify – Expense Reports” app is still available in the App Store. Both apps are available, so pick whichever suits you best!

I don’t get it. Why two versions and why one named in a way that makes the other sound like it’s a paid application? And why doesn’t my Expensify app look anything like the one on the website?

Good question: we are just experimenting with the platform to find out what people care for more – do they want a quick option to snapshot receipts and expenses, or something more full featured to take care of everything on the go. We will eventually consolidate the two applications when we feel comfortable that they cover both use cases sufficiently well.

In the mean time, if you are having trouble with your Expensify app, shoot us an email at help@expensify.com and we will figure out why your app seems to look different than what is shown. Thanks!

Question, does this mean you can install both apps and use whichever is appropriate for the need of the moment?

Yep, you can have both apps installed at the same time and use the one which makes the most sense given the situation.

Just switched from iOS to Android. I was disappointed to find that Android only has the “light” version. Any chance we will get a full featured app like on iphone? I like taking care of as much as possible while on the go. Thanks, I love Expensify!

    Hi Greg,

A full featured Android app (and Android tablet app) are on their way. We’re just finishing up some last minute items to make sure everything is ready and will work as intended. Thanks for your patience in the mean time!

This was very confusing. I’m a big Expensify fan and heard that GPS tracking was available but couldn’t find it in the iOS app I had. An App Store search made me even more confused b/c there were two apps.

I had to google a while before I found this thread that cleared up the confusion.

You guys really should combine this functionality.

Agreed. It’s been a tricky process to create a new app while maintaining the old one. But in the very near future we’re going to reconcile the two. Thanks for your patience, and sorry for the confusion!

I’m looking forward to it. Thanks for the personal reply!
