Log Mobile Offline Expenses and Odometer Readings

We’ve just released the new Expensify Android & BlackBerry 2.60 apps:

What’s included? Let’s take a look a few new features:

Receipt comments

So you love uploading receipts direct to your Expensify account, but what if you want to add a quick note to your receipt, so you don’t forget that important detail? Now you can. We actually made quite a few changes to the core Expensify system to enable this.

Odometer entry

Now you can enter your start odometer reading before you go on a trip, save that value, and then after you get there, enter the end odometer reading, and we’ll calculate the distance and add that mileage expense.

Business cards

Now you can add business cards to your Expensify account, straight from the home screen of the mobile app. We give you the choice: invite the person from the business card, and we’ll give both you and them 5 free receipts scans; otherwise, it costs one scan.

Outbox & offline mode

This has been around for a few versions already, but we thought we’d mention it in case you haven’t heard: The mobile apps have an outbox that can be placed into “offline mode” which makes them not even attempt to send expenses & receipts, which is very handy for when you’re overseas, and don’t want to be charged for extra roaming data – you can tell our app to save uploading them until you’re back in WiFi range. The outbox will also save up your added expenses and receipts if you’re out of service range as well automatically.

Also, for those feeling left out: this will all be coming to the iPhone soon as well, in the form of a new Expensify “lite” app, and we may even have something in store for those on the Windows Phone side…

why dont you create Symbian app? especially when you have it fro WebOS?

How do you change the profile on the android version. I don’t see a place to change from say personal to my business.

I need the odometer app for my iphone; is that available

Yes, it is available! Can you check out the latest Android or BB apps?

Jon: Currently there’s no way to switch policies on the mobile app, but that’s a great idea. Thanks!

Siddhesh: It’s something we’ve considered. Thanks for the request!

I am with Philip – I need this odometer app for my iPhone. Where do I find it, I searched the iPhone App store and just get the regular Expensify app and that doesn’t have the odometer selection on it.

Kim: Sorry for the delay! We’re just about to submit the new iPhone app under the “Expensify Lite” name (until it reaches feature parity with the existing one). I appreciate your patience!

The odometer feature is brilliant! This will make keeping track of my mileage not only easier, but more accurate!

cant wait for iphone app, been waiting for this a long time, you rock

    Maverick app, is really usefull.

Why don’t you have a one time payment option for those that don’t want the nickle and diming every so often

Thanks, we’re glad you like it!

We have heard several other people echo your sentiments. We’re working on a better way to handle receipt scans and our pricing. I apologize for the inconvenience this is causing you in the mean time!

Please keep progressing the WebOS client! I

What would be great is, if when you select a currency other than USD, say CAD, mileage changed from “Miles” to “KMs”. Most countries use the metric system. This would be great if it were reflected on the online app too. I always go back in and change the word miles to kms.

    Nice update otherwise!

Thanks for the feedback! It is currently a limitation with the system we use that all of the units are in miles. It’s something we are aware of and working to fix so all of the people that use us internationally can have a better experience. I apologize for the inconvenience in the mean time!

I’m still waiting for somebody to make an app that lets you take a picture of your odometer instead of manually entering the reading. Expensify want to be the first?

When the iPhone app appears I will finally be able to bin MileBug! Been working with the 2 for a while now so pleeeeeese hurry!

We’re thinking along the same lines! Keep your eyes out for some of our future updates!

save your time save your money !

Yea, so good to see the android app first the poor old isheep having to wait for this one … ooohhh

How soon will I-phone app will be ready???

a comment regrading the mileage, why is it only in Miles, could you please Km as well , also here In Canada, government pay different amounts depending on the mieage you have driven, say for the first 20k it pays out $0.52 and for the rest it pays something like $0.22, so it would be very good if you could add these into the Lite version as well.

    Hi Mike,

The iPhone app is available to be downloaded from the iTunes store. Just search for “Expensify” from your iPhone to find and install the app.

    Hi Nick,

Thanks for this detailed feedback! We’re going to polish up a few rough edges and bring out an updated version of the app first. After we’re confident that it covers the major pain points we’re going to be adding in additional features which let you set more detailed rules regarding mileage and all other expenses. Thanks for your patience on this – we want to make sure it works right when it’s released.

    To Zhenya Grinshteyn ,

Thanks , I noticed that there is something called policy for BB users and I was trying to find a way on my iPhone to separate the personal and business expenses but I was not able to, am I missing on something or this feature is not yet available?

I enter a start odometer reading on a trip and I may not return for a few days and the start reading is no longer saved, am I missing something?

Hi Jim, this is odd — it should never clear out until you submit the expense. Can you make sure you’re not clicking “Sign out”? (When you sign out we clear everything; if you just close the app then all the data will be there when you return.) If this doesn’t sort it out, please write us at help@expensify.com. Thanks, sorry for the inconvenience!

You have an ad in my local paper to work from home on your computer. I wasn’t sure where to get more information and possibly apply.

    Hi Donna!

Email Tim@expensify.com. He is doing the hiring. Thanks for the interest!
